Learning

Success for your child - Knowledge vs Skills

In our world, new discoveries happen every day: knowledge alone is no longer the key to success. We teach your child all the skills they need to succeed.

You must realise that technology has changed our attention spans to be much shorter. Especially if we do not enjoy or like a particular topic, we are quicker to dismiss it and move on. Thus, whatever we teach our children must be interesting and engaging. Otherwise, they will not be able to pay attention.

With this in mind, over the past 10 years, we have completely overhauled our curriculum. Now, we are able to provide engaging, quality education that suits the needs of today’s students. If learning is fun and memorable, your child can learn easily, remember more and perform better. That is exactly what we do.

Our focus has shifted from knowledge dissemination to skill building. Our four pillars of learning are:

  • Critical thinking

  • Communication

  • Holistic development

  • Future proofing

Our curriculum focuses on these fundamental skills. Excelling in these areas allows students to adapt and succeed in any environment. Your child too can have this rock-solid foundation.

If your child goes to school, does your current school provide this?

If your child is about to start going to school, you need to make sure that it does.

Here’s how we achieve these goals at Shalini School:

Pre-Primary & Primary School (3 - 10 Yrs of Age)

  • Experiential Learning

Young students love learning by doing. Making it much more effective than traditional methods. Each lesson is packed with interaction and activities to ensure the best learning outcome.

  • Motor Skills

Fine motor control is taught through writing drills, arts and crafts activities, sensory bins and physical activities.

  • Scientific Temper

An early introduction to science instils a sense of wonder. Through real world observations and experiments, we show our kids the marvels of science.

  • Reading and Listening

Reading and listening develop the skill of critical thinking. Through our reading and discussion sessions, students engage with different points of view to come up with their own opinions.

  • Oratory Skills

Self-expression determines how the world perceives us. We ensure that students are fluent in Hindi and English through numerous opportunities for public speaking. As a result, our students are well spoken beyond their age.

  • Projects

Assignments require students to go beyond their textbook. Then, they present this new information to their classmates. This develops their skill of discovering knowledge and critical thinking.

A neglected yet important aspect of education is the social and emotional development of children. Here too, technology has changed traditional methods. Kids are increasingly disconnected from their peers. They prefer online interaction over the playground. This determines the relationships your child will form with other people. As they go through life, this will have a significant impact on their well-being and happiness. It is vital that they know how to form bonds, treat people well and express their feelings.

Time spent at Shalini School is filled with social interaction. Various means such as in-class discussions, group projects and student activities are used to encourage this. Regular sessions are conducted to introduce them to morals and values. Our students get along well with each other and treat each other with respect and dignity.

Supportive and caring teachers allow students to safely express themselves. This lets them progress through life in-tune with their emotions. If any student faces difficulties, they are encouraged to approach their counsellor for help.

An important part of a child’s development is your role as a parent. While we take care of all aspects of academics, co-curricular activities and social development, your contribution and involvement in their activities can elevate, both, the performance and the happiness of your student.

We ensure that all parents are familiar with our teaching and assessment plans through:

  • Monthly course plans

  • Regular take-home assignments

  • Frequent parent-teacher interactions

Furthermore, parents are invited and encouraged to participate in a wide range of co-curricular activities such as:

  • Annual Sports Day

  • Founder’s Day

  • Club Presentations

  • Open Day

  • Science & Art Exhibition

  • Social Studies Exhibition
